Kerala SET 2026 – What Appearing Candidates Should Know
The Kerala SET 2026 evaluates teaching aspirants across two comprehensive offline OMR-based papers. Paper I is mandatory for all candidates and covers General Knowledge and Teaching Aptitude. Paper II tests the candidate's proficiency in their specific postgraduate subject (offered in 31 different specializations). Each paper has a duration of 120 minutes. Crucially, there is no negative marking in the Kerala SET, allowing candidates to attempt all questions without the risk of a score deduction for incorrect answers.
Qualifying the Kerala SET awards a lifetime eligibility certificate, which is an absolute prerequisite for applying to Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSST) and Non-Vocational Teacher (NVT) vacancies through the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). Selected HSSTs in Kerala government schools are placed in an attractive pay scale of approximately ₹55,200 – ₹1,15,300, supplementing the prestige of higher secondary teaching with excellent state government benefits and stability.
On the day of the exam (02 August 2026), candidates must report to their allotted district centers with a clear, printed copy of their Kerala SET Admit Card and a valid original photo ID (such as an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, Passport, or Voter ID). Entry will be strictly regulated; candidates arriving without the printed hall ticket and original identity proof will not be permitted inside the examination center under any circumstances.
