Educational Qualification
To appear for the NORCET exam, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications from an institute recognized by the Indian Nursing Council or State Nursing Council:
- B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing and registered as a Nurse & Midwife with the State/Indian Nursing Council. OR
- Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing and registered as a Nurse & Midwife. OR
- Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) and registered as a Nurse & Midwife, along with exactly 2 Years of experience in a minimum 50-bedded hospital after acquiring the educational qualification.
GNM candidates must ensure that their 2 years of clinical experience in a minimum 50-bedded hospital is acquired after completing the diploma and registering with the State/Indian Nursing Council. Experience gained before formal registration is typically not counted for NORCET eligibility.
AIIMS NORCET 2026 – Pay Scale & Salary
The remuneration for an AIIMS Nursing Officer falls under Pay Matrix Level 07, which is a significant and high-paying category for an entry-level professional government job.
At Level 7 of the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix, the basic pay starts at ₹44,900. After adding Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA up to 30% depending on posting city class), Transport Allowance (TA), and a specialized Nursing Allowance, the expected monthly in-hand salary for a Nursing Officer posted in an X-class metro city (like Delhi) comes to approximately ₹65,000 – ₹72,000. This figure varies slightly with the posting location and applicable deductions like NPS.
AIIMS NORCET 2026 – Selection Process
The selection for Nursing Officer posts will be conducted through a two-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT) process designed to evaluate fundamental nursing knowledge and clinical application.

The Stage I preliminary exam evaluates candidates across Nursing subjects as well as General Knowledge and Aptitude. However, the Stage II Mains exam is more intensive and focuses comprehensively on nursing subjects and scenario-based clinical questions. There is no interview in this selection process.

AIIMS NORCET 2026 – Exam Syllabus & Paper Pattern
The Stage I Preliminary CBT consists of 100 questions to be solved in 90 minutes. This includes 80 questions covering the core nursing syllabus and 20 questions dedicated to General Awareness and Aptitude. The Stage II Mains CBT is a 180-minute exam consisting of 160 nursing-based multiple-choice questions. Both stages carry a negative marking penalty of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
