- Academic: Candidates must have passed the Class 10th (Matriculation) examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board.
- Technical: Candidates must hold an ITI / National Trade Certificate (NCVT/SCVT) in the relevant trade issued by the National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training.

NFR Apprentice 2026 – Stipend & Salary
Act Apprentices selected under NFR Apprentice 2026 do not receive a standard pay scale or 7th CPC level salary, as this is a skill-building training program and not a permanent government job. Candidates will receive a monthly stipend ranging from ₹7,000 to ₹8,050 during their 1-year training period, strictly in accordance with the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 (as amended). No extra allowances (DA, HRA, TA) are applicable during this period.
NFR Apprentice 2026 – Selection Process
There is no written examination, CBT, or interview for the NFR Apprentice 2026 recruitment. The selection is entirely merit-based. The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) will prepare a final merit list by calculating the average of the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in both the Matriculation (Class 10) examination (with minimum 50% aggregate marks) and the ITI examination. Equal weightage (50-50) is given to both qualifications. In case two candidates secure the same average marks, the older candidate will be placed higher on the merit list.
