Educational Qualification
- Fitter, Electrician & Machinist: Class 10th passed with minimum 50% marks, with Science & Maths under the 10+2 system; Ex-ITI candidates additionally need a National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade.
- Carpenter, Painter & Welder: Class 10th passed with minimum 50% marks; Ex-ITI candidates additionally need a National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade.
- PASAA: Class 10th passed with minimum 50% marks and an ITI Certificate in IT / COPA / Database System Assistant / Software Testing Assistant.
- MLT Radiology & MLT Pathology: Class 12th (10+2) passed with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) stream.
- Candidates holding higher qualifications such as a Degree, Diploma, or Engineering Degree, and candidates who have already completed an Act Apprenticeship, are not eligible to apply — except for the MLT posts.
Domicile / Preference
ICF gives preference to candidates who are residents of Tamil Nadu or are registered with a Tamil Nadu Employment Exchange. Candidates from other states may also apply, subject to the terms of the official notification.

ICF Apprentices Recruitment 2026 – What Selected Candidates Should Know
Training duration varies by trade and category. Freshers in Fitter, Electrician, Machinist, Carpenter, and Painter trades undergo 2 years of training, while Freshers in Welder and MLT trades undergo 1 year 3 months. Ex-ITI candidates generally undergo a shorter training period, usually around 1 year, since prior ITI training is factored into the schedule.
Candidates should note that this is a training engagement under the Apprentices Act, 1961 — it does not carry any guarantee of regular employment at ICF or elsewhere in Indian Railways after completion.
