CLAT 2027 – Past Year Trends & Data

CLAT's applicant pool and exam footprint have grown steadily over the last few cycles, and the registration timeline has consistently opened in the first week of August. Here's how recent years compare.

CycleRegistration WindowExam DateRegistered / Appeared
CLAT 2024Not separately confirmedDecember 202371,243 registered / 68,786 appeared (UG + PG)
CLAT 202515 July – 15 October 20241 December 2024~75,000 appeared (up 5% over 2024, up 33.7% over 2023)
CLAT 20261 August – 7 November 2025 (extended from 31 Oct)7 December 2025156 centres across 93 cities, 25 states & 4 UTs
CLAT 20273 August – 31 October 2026 (current)6 December 2026Not yet available

A few patterns stand out: CLAT 2025 recorded a 96.33% overall attendance rate (97.03% for UG candidates specifically), among the highest in recent years, and female candidates made up roughly 55% of all CLAT 2025 appearances (41,323 of about 75,000). CLAT 2026 expanded to 156 test centres, and RPNLU Prayagraj joined the Consortium as a new participating NLU from the 2026–27 academic session — worth watching whether more NLUs join for CLAT 2027 admissions.

⚠️ Important: CLAT 2026's registration deadline was extended once already, from 31 October to 7 November 2025. Don't treat the 31 October 2026 deadline for CLAT 2027 as absolutely final — check the official portal close to the date in case of a similar extension, but don't delay your own submission banking on one.

CLAT – How Competitive Are Top NLUs? (Previous Year Reference)

These are CLAT 2024 closing ranks from the 4th allotment list for General category UG admissions — shown only to illustrate the kind of rank competitive NLUs have required, not as a 2027 prediction.

NLUNIRF Law Rank (2024)Opening–Closing Rank (General, 4th Allotment)
NLSIU Bangalore11 – 102
NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad34 – 167
NUJS Kolkata4140 – 279 (BA LLB)
GNLU Gandhinagar88 – 464
NLU Lucknow20357 – 764

For a general-category candidate, scoring in the 80–90 mark range (out of 120) has typically been competitive for a seat among the top 5–6 NLUs in recent cycles — Tier-2 and Tier-3 NLUs accept meaningfully lower scores. Treat this as a rough historical benchmark; CLAT 2027's actual cutoffs will depend on that year's paper difficulty and applicant volume.
