MHT CET CAP 2026 – Seats Grew 8% From Last Year
| Particulars | MHT CET 2026 | MHT CET 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Participating Institutes | 380 | 372 | +8 |
| Engineering Seats | 1,92,180 | 1,77,985 | +14,195 (7.98%) |
With intake up nearly 8% and 380 institutes now participating against 372 last year, several colleges outside the very top tier are expected to see marginally more relaxed closing ranks in 2026 compared with 2025 — though demand for CSE/IT-type branches at premier institutes such as COEP and VJTI remains extremely high regardless of the seat increase.

MHT CET CAP Round 1 2026 – Understanding MH vs AI Cutoffs
CET Cell has now published two separate cutoff PDFs for Round 1: an "MH" cutoff for Maharashtra Home-State quota seats, based on your MHT CET percentile, and an "AI" cutoff for All-India quota seats, based on your JEE Main score. A small share of seats at the end of the process — after both MHT CET and JEE Main-based allotment — go to candidates purely on Class 10+2 percentage if they did not appear for either entrance exam. The official cutoff PDFs (branch-wise and category-wise, for both MH and AI quotas) are now live on the official portal alongside the Round 1 allotment result — check the exact closing rank for your target branch and institute there, since these vary by category, institute, and branch and will change again after Round 2.
MHT CET CAP Round 1 2026 – Sample Seat Matrix (Illustrative)
The full 380-institute seat matrix and confirmed Round 1 closing ranks are available only on the official portal. Below are three examples showing how intake is split into General Shift seats and additional seats (per branch) at each institute.
| Institute | Branch (Sample) | Total Intake |
|---|---|---|
| COEP Technological University, Pune | Computer Science and Engineering | 300 + 15 |
| COEP Technological University, Pune | Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning | 75 + 4 |
| VJTI, Matunga, Mumbai | Computer Engineering | 60 + 3 |
| VJTI, Matunga, Mumbai | Textile Technology | 60 + 3 |
| Government College of Engineering, Amravati | Computer Science and Engineering | 60 + 3 |
| Government College of Engineering, Amravati | Instrumentation Engineering | 30 + 2 |
As a reference point only, Computer Engineering at VJTI closed at roughly the 99.95 percentile (Open category) in the 2025 CAP Round 1, and Open category cutoffs at COEP and VJTI have historically stayed above the 99.5 percentile mark for CSE/IT branches. These are prior-year trends, not confirmed 2026 figures — refer to the official cutoff PDF on fe2026.mahacet.org for this year's actual Round 1 closing ranks.
MHT CET 2026 – Three Ways Seats Get Allotted
Admission to Maharashtra's BE/BTech seats runs through three separate merit routes at the same time: Home-State quota seats are filled using your MHT CET score, All-India quota seats are filled using your JEE Main score, and any seats still vacant after both processes go to candidates based purely on their Class 12 percentage. You indicated which basis you're competing on at the time of CAP registration. If you appeared for both MHT CET and JEE Main, you're automatically considered for both quota types; if you appeared for neither, you can still enter the process later through the Class 12 percentage route once seats open up.
After Seat Allotment – What You Must Do by 5 August
